There is something very rocker yet also slightly mischievous about hot pants with a pair of Wolford tights as a choice of autumn/winter attire, see the glittery pair of hot pants worn with sheer tights at the Chanel 2003 F/W collection above. Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent is full of this combo too, and with Slimane’s effervescent sleazy presence at Celine, there may be an outburst there in future collections. And what better to match a scrappy Balenciaga City Bag and Isabel Marant wedge trainers?

Perhaps this combo will be reincarnated on runways, beginning with Miu Miu’s FW23, where models sported underwear and tights- and the essence of the Shorts+Tights is there-the mischief matched with a frumpy cardigan and schoolboy loafers. Although subtler almost inconceivable shorts+tights pairings were sported at Nensi Dojaka FW23 and D&G FW23- is it possible that Miu Miu was brazenly braving the arrival of a Shorts+Tights phenomenon first?

I wrote an article on this website titled ‘How To: Stray From Y2K’, however in that blogpost I focused on Mid-2000s Boho Chic as a supplement to a mutating Y2K presence.
Yet I also get such a fresh feeling from non-sleaze collections and styling from the early-2010s, which I think I will write a standalone piece on. One particular 2011-esque combo that caught my eye were Shorts + Tights, so I delved into this ‘Y211’ craze by searching through cobwebbed style sites from the era.
My findings: Celebrity stylist Toni Ferrara claimed, “the shorts and tights trend is the new jean for 2011.” Archive blogger dubbed ChickAdvisor, advised pattern tights with shorts “for an edgier look” in a post in November 2010.
And as fashion yo-yos between what’s cool and uncool, it’s time Shorts+Tights were finally flung forward.
