Week 1: Stripes and Socialista

To commence a new series of short-form weekly blogposts, I have Monégasque royal Charlotte Casiraghi and Rosie Huntington-Whitely in a nightclub circa 2008 on the cover,

Because, hence the title, no club was as skittish as Socialista in 2008. Another key intrigue of mine this week is Cabana Stripes (which the wallpaper of the cover photo gives a good example of), not just any stripes. Stripes and Socialista are two of a few things I’ve loved and listed in this week’s blog, and I’m yet to explain why…

1) Socialista

The premise of Socialista is as a private Cuban style lounge, the NYC Socialista was referenced in Gossip Girl numerous times, and it was really hot like 15 years ago.

I’ve been going with a friend to Socialista in London, and it’s honestly just a glorified living room and it really is anything but cool. Yet there’s mayhem in the air that we’ve grown really fond of, it’s almost as if it’s been refrigerated in time to the late 00s. The lesson? Look for looseness not coolness when going out- below is a Getty Images shot I found of New York socialite Lydia Hearst in 2007 at Socialista- the fruits of Socialista are ripe!

2) Pull Letter Magazine

The most intriguing editorial shoots in this magazine, and I forever have faith that print media can still be compelling, and Pull Letter retains this faith in me. Pull Letter stock in selected magazine shops in London and Paris.

3) Balenciaga 2017 Striped Bag

On theme with the stripes this week. One of the set designers on a job I worked on in Paris last fashion week owned this navy and red leather striped Balenciaga back from 2017- I’m still thinking about it this week, hence the mention. I’d even consider trading up my 2001 Balenciaga city bag for this! I also saw a guy on the tube with this exact bag too, so it’s definitely a sign.

4) Lucila Safdie

A new up-and-coming brand I’m loving is Lucila Safdie, I actually have an interview article with Lucila Safdie for Enfnts Terribles Magazine coming out soon. With beehive hair and cabana stripes alongside Ana Takahashi for makeup and gold hot pants- Lucila Safdie mingles the 1960s domestic with the sleazebag. The most recent collection and campaign came out this week featuring Alana Champion and a pair of quilted shorts I really want now. Also, lots of emphasis on the Cabana Stripes.
